Wiggins: Worst fears about Armstrong confirmed

“I have been involved in pro cycling for a long time and I realise what it takes to train and win the Tour de France. I’m not surprised by it,” says the Team Sky leader.

SHOCKED TOUR DE FRANCE champion Bradley Wiggins says there can no longer be any doubt that Lance Armstrong was a drug cheat.

Following the US Anti-Doping Agency’s damning 1,000-page dossier of evidence, including testimonies from 26 witnesses, including 11 of the seven-time Tour de France winner’s team mates, Wiggins admitted he was stunned by the scale of the evidence.

Armstrong has been stripped of his seven Tours as well as all of his titles since 1998 having orchestrated ‘the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen’.

“It’s pretty damning stuff. It is pretty jaw-dropping the amount of people who have testified against him,” Wiggins said. ”It is certainly not a one-sided hatchet job, it is pretty damning. I am shocked at the scale of the evidence.

“I have been involved in pro cycling for a long time and I realise what it takes to train and win the Tour de France. I’m not surprised by it. I had a good idea what was going on.”
