I remember something about a study conducted in the states last year where something like 60% of US people stated they would use illegal drugs to become an Olympic or World champion, even if taking those illegal drugs cut their life span to 45 or so years.

Parents in the US expect their kids to outperform others, even siblings in everything, and if they do not then they are failures. Putting that much pressure on kids only ends up with these results.

I think we have to accept that Mr. Armstrong is only the product of his nation. A nation where winning at all costs, no matter if it’s on a sports field or in a boardroom is the only important thing that matters.

He was wrong to do what he did. He did it in the full knowledge that what he was doing was wrong, and illegal. I just hope that he has previously made statements in legal proceedings that he now appears to admit were incorrect. I hope he will be found to have committed perjury and I hope he will spend time behind bars for that, if only to stop one more “sports” person from taking illegal drugs.
