1. #CARLING CUP It was a busy night of cross-channel soccer yesterday evening.

Owen Hargreaves scored on his Manchester City debut against Birmingham, ending years of injury frustration.

Steven Gerrard also returned to the fray as Liverpool edged out Gus Poyet’s Brighton at the Amex.

2. #RWC2011 Ireland coach Declan Kidney will name his side to face Russia overnight.

We can safely assume that injury concerns Paul O’Connell,  Tommy Bowe and Gordon D’Arcy will not be risked against the minnows on Sunday morning.

3. #DUBS The All-Ireland winners took on Kilmacud Crokes in a charity game at Parnell Park with Pat Gilroy starting at full forward and Eamonn Fennell scoring five goals. It ended 8-3 to 6-4 in favour of Dublin.
