The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

Chelsea are also looking to sign Anderlecht’s hilariously-named striker, Romelu Lukaku for £20m, with his agent set to meet the club on Saturday.

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER Fabregas-to-Barcelona rumour.  That is if Barcelona can conjure up the requisite funds.

The sheer relentlessness of Barca’s pursuit of the Spaniard is incredible, especially for a player who would be by no means guaranteed a starting place at the Catalan club.

Arsenal, meanwhile, having missed out on Phil Jones, will look for consolation in the form of one-time potential Ireland international Gary Cahill, or Blackburn’s gigantic Congolese international defender Christopher Samba.

Liverpool have been added to the zillions of clubs linked with Ipswich’s prodigious striker Connor Wickham. The Merseysiders are also tracking José Enrique and Charlie Adam according to the same report.

The Anfield club are also trying sign Jeffren, a player who isn’t even good enough to get into the Barcelona team. He must be rubbish then.

The Merseysiders also seem to have unsurprisingly failed to convince anyone that Alberto Aquilani is actually worth signing.

Chelsea will look to dispel rumours that they are relatively poor in contrast with new big-spenders Man City by offering £41m for Santos’ Brazilian international Neymar.

Man United, following their soon-to-be-confirmed signing of Phil Jones, will look to end the persistent speculation linking Ashley Young with a move away from Villa by actually taking him away from Villa. I won’t believe it until I see it though.

In addition to the strong interest they’ve shown in other Irish players, Sunderland are also looking at Ireland’s second choice goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.

Chelsea are also apparently set to secure the services of Wesley Sneijder ahead of Man United, with the midfielder’s wife said to prefer a move to London rather than Manchester. With Carlos Tevez also criticising the place of late, you have to feel for the city after the torrent of recent abuse its received.

Chelsea are also looking to sign Anderlecht’s hilariously-named striker, Romelu Lukaku for £20m, with his agent set to meet the club on Saturday.

The London side will also look to hopefully invest in another exotic-sounding central defender in the form of Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin, following the less-than-roaring-success that was David Luiz.

Finally, Steve Bruce continues his masterplan to be rebuild Sunderland by replacing the youth and vigour of Jordan Henderson with the… erm… experience of 34-year-old Marcos Senna. Not exactly like for like then.
