Sports film of the week: The Two Escobars

Every week we turn the lights down, get the popcorn on and watch one of your favourites together. Do join us.

Title: The Two Escobars

Directors: Jeff Zimbalist, Michael Zimbalist

Release date: 2010

The plot: Those of us who remember USA ’94, will know half this tale already. Andres Esobar — part of the much-fancied Columbia team at the World Cup — scored an own goal that contributed to the country’s elimination in the group stages. He was shot days after returning home. The other Escobar is, unsurprisingly, the infamous drug baron, Pablo. Their fates were inextricably and sadly linked, as this ESPN production shows.
