STEPHEN HENDRY IS on the verge of a place in the last eight of the World Snooker Championships, having established a 12-4 lead over John Higgins at the Crucible this evening.

Meanwhile, former world champion Neil Robertson beat David Gilbert 13-9 to book his place in the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, Stephen Maguire looks likely to join Robertson in the last eight, as he currently leads Joe Perry 11-5.

And in the day’s other encounter, Ryan Day of Wales gained a 6-2 lead over China’s Cao Yupeng.
