UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN glued to the internet all weekend, there’s a chance that some weird and wonderful sporting tidbits might have slipped through the cracks. Here’s a run-down of some of our favourites…
#BIG DAY Fresh from winning Player of the Tournament as Spain clinched an historic third major tournament on the trot in Kiev, Andres Iniesta tied the knot with fiancee Anna Ortiz in Catalunya yesterday. Team-mates Leo Messi, Carles Puyol, Victor Valdes and Gerard Pique (without Shakira) showed up for the ceremony while former Barca striker Samuel Eto’o also attended.

#TEARS 74 years after Fred Perry, Britain got behind Andy Murray for his Wimbledon final meeting with Roger Federer. It wasn’t to be, however, as the legendary Swiss player won the competition for a record seventh time. It was hard not to feel a little for Murray when, in his post-match interview on centre court, the often poker faced 25-year-old broke down.

#UPSET Defending champions Kilkenny were stunned at Croke Park yesterday, as Galway won by a ten-point margin in the Leinster SHC final. The Tribesmen got off to perfect start when Joe Canning beat Jackie Tyrrell to a high ball and expertly collected before blasting past David Herity.

#FIGHT NIGHT Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury kept his unbeaten run in tact on Saturday night with a fifth round knockout win over American Vinny Maddalone in Somerset. The 23-year-old, whose parents are both Irish, had an easy win and it seems only a matter of time before gets a shot at one of the Klitschko brothers.

#HOLIDAY While some of team-mates are back at Carrington preparing for the new season, Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli swigged a bottle of champagne and puffed out of a shisha pipe on a night out in St Tropez while receiving a massage from a blonde lady friend.
