MUNSTER HAVE RULED skipper Paul O’Connell out of their RaboDirect Pro12 semi-final against the Ospreys.

O’Connell injured his left knee against Ulster last weekend and the province expect him to be sidelined for four to six weeks, which would also see him miss the Pro12 final should Munster emerge victorious from Friday’s trip to the Liberty Stadium.

Hooker Damien Varley is also unavailable for the Ospreys game with a sprained ankle but could still be fit in time for a potential decider against either Leinster or Glasgow on 26 May.

But there was better news on Ronan O’Gara, who has been out of action with a leg injury picked up in the Heineken Cup quarter-final defeat to Ulster.

The out-half is expected to train with the team tomorrow and could yet be named in Tony McGahan’s travelling squad when it is announced in the late afternoon.
