A MOTION REQUESTING that all county boards sign up to a players’ charter by the end of January 2013 has been passed by the Gaelic Players Association (GPA), it was today confirmed.
There were also a number of other issues on the agenda at the association’s AGM today.
The motion examining the possibility of combined Ulster Hurling squads was passed, which could see Ulster Minor and U21 squads competing in the All-Ireland series for a three-year period.
A motion was also passed decreeing that the GPA would urge the Government to maintain the current level of funding granted to Inter-County players, as they have already sustained cuts totalling 73 percent.
Finally, it was decided that the organisation would encourage players’ representative bodies and elite level athletes to establish a National Athletes’ Alliance “to facilitate the exchange of ideas and knowledge and to provide support to athletes and to representative bodies”.
