CORK MIDFIELDER JOHN Miskella has called time on his playing career – with the Rebels and his club Ballincollig – because of injury.
The All-Ireland winner told Michael Moynihan in this morning’s Irish Examiner that a groin injury means he can no longer continue.
Teammate paid tribute to Miskella throughout the day. “Best wishes to John Miscella . Fantastic player over the years.il miss annoying the hell out of him on the bus to game,” wrote Cork dual star Eoin Cadogan on Twitter.
“Sad to see my old room mate Johnny Misk had to retire due to injury!A sound man and an unbelieveable player,” added Nemo man Paul Kerrigan.
Yesterday, Tipperary hurling goalkeeper Brendan Cummins committed to another year with the Premier County meanwhile.
“I probably will end up going back alright. I will,” said the 36-year-old, “We haven’t had any contact since the All-Ireland final and, I suppose, like all players, you are waiting for that phone call to see what’s going on. If Declan rings, I will be happy enough to throw my hat in the ring.
“I try to be as fit as everybody else in there. In the goals, flexibility is a key thing and unless you are fit you are not going to be able to reach places that the ball is going quick enough, especially these days because the ball is going so fast.”
Last week, Five-time All-Ireland winner James ‘Cha’ FitzPatrick bowed out of intercounty action due to a lack of game time with Kilkenny.
