In a league of their own: La Liga stars dominate World XI

And by dominate, we mean completely dominate.

THE 2012 FIFPRO World XI was announced during the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo among the stand-out names.

The FIFPro World XI is a prize from the players for the players, with FIFPro inviting all professional footballers in the world to compose their best team of the year.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas gets the nod between the sticks, while his club team-mates Sergio Ramos and Marcelo have made it into the defence alongside Barca duo Dani Alves and Gerard Pique.

The three-man midfield consists of Madrid star Xabi Alonso, as well as Spain team-mates Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Unsurprisingly, both Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona ace Lionel Messi have made the cut up front, with Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao completing the side.

FIFPro World XI (4-3-3): Iker Casillas; Dani Alves, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo; Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Andres Iniesta; Lionel Messi, Radamel Falcao, Cristiano Ronaldo.

  • I never got the Piqué or Ramos worship

Obviously both top footballers but best in their position in the world? I’m not so sure they are really defenders as such, Ramos is a pure athlete and just brilliant going forward, but he’s seriously dodgy at the back.

    Anyone agree ?

Agree with you 100% the only defender worthy of his place is Alves in my opinion. Komoany should definetly be centre half he was outstanding the other centre half off the top of my head could be Hummels as he was part of a double winning Dortmund side and a brilliant German side until Italy came along and ruined their party. At left back whether you hate him or not the best left back in the world is Ashley Cole he has been outstanding for years now ( on the field that is). My final point is commiserations to Van Persie deserved to be there but that would mean discarding Falcao or changing the formation to 4-4-2 with Alonso losing out

  • hopefully this will shut sky and the BBC up when they ramble on about the premiership being the best LG in the world. having lots of money doesn’t mean it’s the greatest. la liga is best for actual football and German LG is by far the best run LG on earth. plus, when was the last time an English or English based player won the balon d’or?
