Heaven 17: Shamrock Rovers celebrate their league win (Photos)

There might be a couple of sore heads in green and white this morning.

SHAMROCK ROVERS LEFT it late before clinching a record 17th league title with a 2-1 win over UCD in Belfield last night.

Substitute Dean Kelly came off the bench to strike four minutes into injury time, sending the thousands of visiting Hoops fans into a frenzy.

Rovers won’t be presented with the league trophy until their final home game against Galway United on Friday, but that didn’t stop them from celebrating last night.

Here are some of the snaps.

  • Well done Rovers, clearly the best Team in Ireland at the moment.
I can remember hearing stories about my blind grandfather going to Milltown and also listening to Philip greene on the radio when Rovers were playing away. Then myself going to Miltown watching Giles ,Dunphy, Treacy , Eoin Hand, Alan O’Neill, Cervi, Paddy Mulligan, Eddie O’Sullivan, Noel Sinnott, Alan Campbell, Liam Buckley and many others. It was a great place for football.

My proudest moment as a former supporter standing on an abandoned terrace in torrential rain, soaked through trying to kick the ball over the fence to a pissed of Eamon Dunphy having falling behind to Banik Ostrava in Europe.

The Tallaght incarnation is exceptional and congratulations to all involved. Great vision and belief long may they continue.
