MEET THE REAL “Team Breezy”.

A host of famous GAA faces flew out to New York today to help rebuild the youth sports facilities in hurricane-hit Breezy Point.

Tipperary hurling star Lar Corbett and former All-Stars Brian McGuigan and Ollie Canning are part of the 18-strong work party, led by GPA chairman Donal Óg Cusack and All-Ireland winning manager Pat Gilroy.

The project follows on from a visit by the GAA/GPA All-Stars to Rockaway Peninsula last November where they witnessed first hand the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The players, engineers and tradesmen will be joined by volunteers from Aer Lingus who are flying the party out to the US.

    • Tomas, i live in Breezy Point & as i am from Tipp, i obviously like Lar. But lets be honest, what is needed is cash, engineers, and building professionals, not a hurler who can “pitch” in. He would be doing everybody a favour by staying away, the last thing the place needs is circus acts. I can probably name all the bars he will be in the next few days if you want.

Lar had to “retire” from hurling this time last year for business commitment reasons and now he has time to fly to the states! Also, he has an All-Ireland club semi final approaching, hardly the appropriate preparation for him? I wonder what his teammates think of this?

    • So you don’t see any difference between training and playing to the highest level in championship hurling and heading to the states for a days doing some charity work? There’s no difference in the time commitment, the physical commitment, the effort? Seriously lad, get over yourself.

Yes Tom, but now he’s able to juggle everything and also prepare for an All-Ireland Club Semi Final. If a lad did that from my club so close to the match myself and all the other lads would be disgusted. I don’t think he gets on with them as it is though so I don’t think he cares, obviously not!
