CONOR LENIHAN has confirmed he will NOT be seeking nomination to contest Fianna Fáil’s leadership election, telling RTÉ’s David Davin-Power that having contacted others within the party, too many fellow TDs had already offered their support to other candidates. Lenihan’s withdrawal means that the four currently declared candidates will likely be the only ones to contest Wednesday’s election.

A Fianna Fáil candidate in the general election in Clare says the party’s next Dáil crop should have a role in picking a leader.

THE GREEN PARTY has issued a brief statement in which it said its TDs and Senators had discussed Brian Cowen’s decision to resign as leader of Fianna Fail, but to remain as Taoiseach. The party will “meet tomorrow morning to consider the situation”, the statement said.
