THE TAOISEACH ENDA Kenny will meet with the athletes from Team Ireland in London today, as the games officially kick off.

He’ll join up with them this morning at their training base in St. Mary’s College Twickenham at 10am. Mr Kenny has praised their sacrifices and their training over the years and said that their progress will be followed with:

… excitement, respect and determination.

It’s a busy day for the Taoiseach today as between meeting the Irish atheletes and arriving at the opening ceremony at 7.30pm to watch Katie Taylor carry the Irish flag, he’ll be meeting with White House hopeful Mitt Romney a the Irish embassy in London at 3.15pm.

Republic nominee Romney had requested the meeting in his capacity as former governor of Massachusetts.

After that it’s no rest for the Taoiseach as he heads to Buckingham Palace for a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II for heads of State and Government. They’re sure to greet each other like old friends, after Kenny said earlier this year that the Queen is “awesome”.
