Do I look bothered? Suarez relaxed about Old Trafford return

URUGUAY STRIKER Luis Suarez took a swipe at the English media today as he prepared to return to Old Trafford for the first time since his spat with Patrice Evra last season.

The Liverpool forward was hit with a lengthy ban last year after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Evra during a match at Anfield in October.

Suarez then triggered a fresh firestorm of controversy in the return fixture at Old Trafford when he pointedly refused to shake Evra’s hand. However Suarez is relaxed about his return to Manchester this week as Uruguay kick off their Olympic campaign against the United Arab Emirates.

“I am representing Uruguay and that’s all that matters to me,” Suarez said. “I said before that the English press is what matters least to me. I am proud to represent my country.”

Suarez also brushed off suggestions that he might benefit from the experience of having played at Old Trafford before.

“I don’t really know Old Trafford that well,” he said. “I have played one match there. I have played just once at many stadiums, so I don’t have to give advice to anyone on the stadiums we play at. It’s a great stadium. What we have to do is play football at a spectacular ground.”

  • There’s only one idiot involved in the story and that’ suarez….very childish behavier by a so called profesional footballer in full view of millions of children both present and watching the game on t.v. when he refused to shake hands….all desent die hard pool supporters should have signed a petition there and then to have him removed from the club…. The great Bill Shankley would have kicked him out at the first instance rather than have the clubs name tarnished like it has been.

    • If u watch the footage u will see evra raise his hand to shake everybody else’s hand and then drop his hand when Suarez came along making suarez make the move to shake hands when evra went round telling everybody that he was going to be the bigger man and shake hands and when suarez got to evra evras hand wasnt up so he just moved on simples people clear as day

“I have spoken with the manager since the game at Old Trafford and I realize I got things wrong,” Suarez said in a statement yesterday on Liverpool’s website. “I’ve not only let him down, but also the club and what it stands for and I’m sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened.”
