RUMOURS HAVE LINKED Clint Dempsey to Liverpool for some months, but it seems the club’s owners have jumped the gun on announcing a deal.

The Fenway Sports Group ran a story on their website this morning claiming the Reds had ‘added Clint Dempsey to a team that came within a game of winning the FA Cup’.

But that story was quickly taken down, and it seems the player may be staying with Martin Jol at Fulham for the time being, with the club saying they are yet to receive any offers for the American international.

Dempsey helped the Cottagers to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season, scoring 23 goals in all competitions. The 29-year-old is just one of many names linked with a move to Anfield this off-season to join new manager Brendan Rodgers.

He is reportedly interested in returning to former club Swansea for midfielder Joe Allen while rumours also continue to link Andy Carroll with a move away from the Reds.
