US CONGRESSMAN Mike Rogers has said in a radio interview that Pfc Bradley Manning should be executed for treason if found guilty of providing military documents to Wikileaks.

Manning is currently under arrest and awaiting court martial for allegedly providing classified information to the Wikileaks site, including the highly controversial video footage of a helicopter attack on civilians. Two Reuters employees were killed in the attack.

Rogers, who is on the House Intelligence Committee, makes the suggestion at around 02:30 on this recording of the interview.

He also suggests that some of the information disclosed by leaks is not accurate, and may lead to people being killed as a result of operational information being released.

Wikileaks has never confirmed its sources. In July, the site released its biggest cache of military documents to date, detailing events in Afghanistan. The White House subsequently launched an investigation into the leak.

Here, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange likened Manning’s situation to that of a Guantanamo detainee before he was recently brought to the US to await trial:

The Washington Post recently published a report based on its two-year investigation into the US intelligence services which showed deep flaws in the system.
