Big Mo: Our favourite sporting soup strainers from Movember 2010

Jamie Heaslip set the charity facial hair bar last year, but there were plenty of other commendable efforts. If you’re looking for inspiration, look no further.

FACIAL HAIR LOVERS of the world, rejoice. It’s time for Movember 2011.

As the razors are stowed away for the next four weeks and men all around the world go from looking ridiculous to… em, looking even more ridiculous… we look to some sporting icons for inspiration on which mo to grow.

Big Mo: Our favourite sporting soup strainers from Movember 2010
1 / 9
  • Jamie Heaslip

If you're going to grow a ridiculous ronnie, you might as well go all out and go for a 50s style side-parting with lashings of wet look gel.
  • Aaron Rodgers

What better way to pay tribute to Hulk Hogan than by aping the big man's trademark moustache.
  • John Barclay

What John Barclay's nose neighbour lacked in imagination, it made up for in execution.
  • Keith Fahey

Keith Fahey leaves St Pat's. Keith Fahey experiments with a dodgy tache. Draw your own conclusions.
  • Tony Buckley

Mushy is a hairy man at the best of times, but last year's carefully preened effort resembled something straight out of The Adventures of Asterix.
  • Kevin Pietersen

Graham Gooch, Ian Botham, Richard Ellison -- KP was able to draw on a long tradition of English cricketers with audacious facial hair for inspiration.
  • Toby Faletau

Toby Faletau was obviously slightly confused by the whole concept. His facial effort was literally overshadowed by the growth of a quite excellent afro.
  • Marc Lièvremont

Rather than wait for November like the rest of us, Mad Marc decided that his mo needed to be set free a couple of weeks early. Growing this ranks far down the list of surprising things he did at this year's Rugby World Cup.
  • Gary McCabe

Gary McCabe didn't back himself to grow a full-on crumb catcher within four weeks, so got a jump on this year's competition by starting a few weeks early.
