Movember power rankings: the top 10 sporting mos, week 3

Who’s up and who’s down? The race to be crowned sport’s Movember champion heated up this week with a surprising new entry.

YOU KNOW THE drill at this stage. Some top sporting figures have kindly donated their faces to the Movember cause and are popping up this month with all manner of ridiculous moustaches.

Padraig Harrington’s handlebar was our clear favourite in week one, but the Dubliner was edged out of top spot by the more classic look of Ulster’s Neil McComb at the half-way point last weekend.

As we prepare for the final stretch, who will set themselves up as the man to catch? Will it be Harrington or McComb? Or will one of this week’s left-field new entries shake up the leaderboard entirely?

As always, if we’ve missed your favourite or you disagree entirely, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Movember power rankings: the top 10 sporting mos, week 3
1 / 10
  • 10. Jamie Heaslip

Maybe it's the pressure of the captaincy, or maybe his heart's just not in it as much as last year, but Heaslip is slip sliding away after an excellent start.
  • 9. Noel Hunt

With no update last week, Hunt disappeared out of the top 10 but he's back in at nine with his self-styled Boardwalk Empire look. Honourable mention to Reading team-mate Jem Karacan.
  • 8. Phil Jagielka

A new entry at number eight as Jags creeps in under the radar for the first time this Movember. Reports of a direct correlation between drinking Chang and mo growth could not be confirmed at time of publication.
  • 7. Cian Healy

As we said last week, we're big fans of Healy's tash/chin stubble combo but at this stage of the game, it's lacking that bit of X Factor which would drive it up the rankings.
  • 6. Michael Owen

Football fans didn't know whether to laugh or cry when Owen and his mo popped up on Sky Sports' Champions League coverage this week. There's a lot of strong competition in the handlebar category this year though, even if we chuck in a couple of bonus points for the hat.
  • 5. Theo Walcott

Here at TheScore.ie, we've plenty of time for those who can't just click their fingers and grow a full beard overnight. Walcott has stuck to his task since day one and come on in leaps and bounds. He's worthy of his place in the top five, and possibly a dark horse for a podium finish next week.
  • 4. Neil McComb

Last week's leader drops back a couple of places -- but really, that's only because we couldn't find a picture that properly showcases his current progress. Fair play to Treviso's Valerio Bernabo who (we presume) doesn't always look like that.
  • 3. Toby Flood

This is where the top contenders really throw their weight around -- it looks like Flood is carrying around a live caterpillar on his face for God's sake.
  • 2. Ray Houghton

A shock entry straight in at number two. Nobody even knew that Houghton was growing a mo until he took a break from tying distressed damsels to railroad tracks and popped into RTÉ this week. "Gentleman thief," the Twitterati branded him.
  • 1. Padraig Harrington

There's no getting away from the fact that Harrington is the class act in this year's field. Since day one, he has owned the handlebar style and hasn't been outside the top two in the rankings yet. Can he hang on at the top of the leaderboard for one more week?
