ARMAGH GAA CHIEFS have responded to the heavy criticism of them by former county sponsor Hugh Morgan by pointing out that complications arose recently in the sponsorship deal.

In a hard-hitting statement Morgan launched a withering attack on the board and expressed his view that they had failed ‘to take decisive and strategic action to stem the decline of Armagh Football’.

Armagh announced last week that Rainbow Communications was to become their new jersey sponsors after Morgan’s company ‘Morgan Fuels’ had filled that role for several years.

Morgan hit back by releasing a statement that revealed he was to withdraw sponsorship for the county’s flagship stadium, the Athletic Grounds. But the row has continued with Armagh chiefs now offering their opinion.

The statement reads:

Coiste Chontae Ard Mhacha are disappointed with Mr. Morgan’s response to our new sponsorship arrangements since at all times we endeavour to conduct our affairs with discretion and integrity.

While our partnership with Morgan Fuels has been prosperous and mutually respectful for many years; recently some complications have arisen regarding the sponsorship of Ard Mhacha.

We wish him and his company well and would like to thank him sincerely for his contribution to our county over the past seventeen years.

Finally, while we always welcome advice on how to manage our coaching and games, we will continue to ensure that this part of our operation will at all times be under the strategic control of our county board.
