MERSEYSIDE POLICE HAVE confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the racist abuse allegedly aimed at Tom Adeyemi during last night’s FA Cup tie between Oldham and Liverpool.

An investigation was launched following the game, with at least one eyewitness backing up Adeyemi’s claim.

The individual in question, from Aintree, Merseyside, has been interviewed by detectives and is currently being held in custody.

Earlier this evening, Liverpool FC released a statement, which read:

“Liverpool Football Club continue to work closely with Merseyside Police to establish all the facts surrounding the incident that occurred during last night’s game.

“We take this matter extremely seriously and have today provided the police with the evidence we currently have available to us.”

Adeyemi, who is on loan at Oldham from Norwich City, has so far not commented publicly on the incident.

Every club has their utter knobhead fans & id hope liverpool will weed out theirs & make an example of them.
A very small number of liverpool fans returned their season tickets when john barnes was signed & he had bananas thrown at him while playing!! :-0 feck sake!!!
Wasnt eric cantona racially abused by a crystal palace fan called mathew simmons in january 1995?
And taking it into his own hands landed him with a rather large ban, it wouldnt be fair for a player to react like that again & be banned over some DICKHEAD racist in the stands.

Oh the same matthew simmons was jailed last year i think for attacking a referee at his sons u-12 game.
    Lovely lad.

  • Liverpool of all clubs need to act strong against this type of behaviour. They have had enough off field problems this week. It also goes a long way though towards understanding and underlying problem that English football has. These muppets think they have a right to do as they please because they are in a crowd.
I am not saying its all fans of course not but there is massive problem over there still with gang/mob behaviour at games. You only have to look at how away fans are treated at most games. Hurried in to the stadium through away fan only entrances, segregated on different stands and sometimes kept in the stadium until home fans have cleared the local area to avoid trouble.
Compare this to the scenes in Croke park around summer time where fans of both teams sit beside each other during the game, share a bit of banter and shake hands afterwords.

    • When croke park was opened up a group of police chiefs came over to discuss crowd control etc with the gardai and croke park management. First question they asked was how do they segregate fans at the moment. They couldn believe when they saw a match and all the “opposing” fans mingling and sitting beside each other.
